Lead Electronics Design Engineer - Automated Test Equipment - MA

Marlborough, MA

Purpose

Lead the design, development, and testing of electronic assemblies and systems for new and improved products, as well as custom turnkey systems, for commercial automated test equipment (ATE). Apply advanced electrical engineering principles, theories, and concepts to complex electronic test and measurement challenges. Provide hands-on technical leadership in establishing and maintaining company-wide electronic design standards, processes, tools, and templates, as well as mentoring junior electronic design engineers.

Requirements

  • BS in electrical engineering, MS preferred
  • 10+ years of analog and digital electronic design experience
  • DC and AC power electronics design experience including amplifiers, converters, conditioners, controllers, distribution, loads and supplies
  • Embedded firmware and software design experience using C, VHDL, Verilog, and/or LabVIEW FPGA
  • Experience designing electronic test fixtures and cable assemblies
  • Strong hands-on hardware troubleshooting and software debugging skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Helpful Skills

  • Experience specifying, developing, and applying electronic ATE, including PCBA design validation and manufacturing functional test systems
  • Experience with Altium electronic schematic design software
  • PCBA layout design and parameter optimization a plus
  • Experience with digital communication buses including SPI, I2C, CAN, and RS232
  • Experience designing sources and circuits with bidirectional sink and source current flow
  • Experience leading and mentoring junior electronic engineers
  • Experience working in a cross-functional team
  • Experience with National Instruments hardware and LabVIEW software
  • Energetic and enthusiastic; hard worker and rapidly responsive communicator; personable and team oriented

Responsibilities

  • Lead the specification, design, integration, and test of electronic assemblies and systems for commercial ATE systems
  • Facilitate company-wide electronic product R&D, across three lines of business
  • Generate electronic design schematics using Altium
  • Oversee and/or optimize PCBA layouts
  • Manage product regulatory compliance testing, such as FCC and CE
  • Define company-wide electronic design standards and procedures including Altium libraries, schematic review processes, and engineering change management documentation
  • Facilitate the smooth transfer of products from engineering to production
  • Perform quality assurance functions in determining the root cause of field failures
  • Oversee, mentor, and direct the work of junior electronic design engineers and external consultants as needed
  • Provide occasional end-customer support

Location

Company office in Marlborough, MA with occasional travel to company and customer sites primarily within the northeast US. Opportunity for occasional travel to western US, Europe, or Asia during ATE commissioning.
