Bloomy and Maplesoft® Collaborate on Battery Modeling and Simulation for BMS Testing

Wednesday, October 18, 2017

WINDSOR, Conn., October 18, 2017 – Bloomy Controls Inc. (Bloomy) and Maplesoft today announced a collaboration to combine industry-leading battery models from Maplesoft with Bloomy’s BMS HIL Test System in order to safely and accurately simulate advanced-chemistry batteries for testing battery management systems (BMS) using real hardware.

Model-based BMS testing is a safe and efficient alternative to the more traditional approach of using physical battery cells. In addition to the significant dangers when testing battery fault scenarios, it is quite time consuming and difficult to charge and discharge the cells during an automated test routine. Bloomy’s BMS HIL Test System contains one or more of Bloomy’s Battery Simulator 1200 instruments, which are programmed to produce simulated cell signals at any operating point, according to the model. The model-based system further allows for increased flexibility by providing scenarios for many different battery configurations. By combining MapleSim’s high-fidelity battery models and the Bloomy BMS HIL Test System, it is now easier to safely and efficiently test and develop advanced BMS firmware for enhanced battery performance.

“Combining the powerful and comprehensive mathematical modeling solutions of Maplesoft with Bloomy’s BMS HIL Test System will provide our customers with even greater capabilities to accelerate their BMS development lifecycle, and to do so with even greater efficiency and reliability,” said Steven Hoenig, Bloomy’s BTS Unit Manager.
