Multipurpose Mobile PXI DAQ System

Customer

United Technologies Research Center (East Hartford, CT) supports all of United Technologies Corp.’s business units and their products – from elevators and fuel cells to helicopters and jet engines.

Challenge

Provide a general-purpose data acquisition (DAQ) system that can measure a variety of data and be portable and rugged so it can be transported and used by numerous groups within the research center.

Solution

Build a mobile DAQ system that measures up to 160 channels of synchronized data to disk at high and low speeds.

Features

Key products used:

  • National Instruments (NI) LabVIEW
  • NI PXI-1010 chassis
  • NI PXI-8335 MXI-3 interface
  • NI PXI-6052E multifunction data acquisition
  • NI SCXI-1001 chassis
  • NI SCXI-1102B and SCXI-1102C analog mux
  • NI SCXI-1520 strain gauge input
  • NI SCXI-1314 terminal blocks

Results

The mobile DAQ system achieves seamless integration among signal conditioning, data acquisition, and synchronization that benchtop instruments would not have achieved. By choosing this system over using benchtop instruments, United Technologies Research Center saved hundreds of thousands of dollars.
