Advanced Automotive Battery Conference

Tuesday, November 3, 2020 - 9:00am to Friday, November 6, 2020 - 2:45pm

This year the AABC Conference has gone virtual. Bloomy will be leading the Plenary Solutions Theatre Session on Wednesday, November 4th at 11:25AM.

Explore Bloomy's virtual exhibitor booth to learn about Bloomy’s family of cell simulators and BMS automated testing systems that support the full BMS development lifecycle.

Testing Battery Sensitivities of EV Subsystems Using Battery Simulation and Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) Techniques

Date: Wednesday, November 4th

Time: 11:25AM EST (UTC-05:00)

Presented by: Grant Gothing, Chief Technical Officer

Many EV subsystems are sensitive to the battery performance and behavior throughout the various modes of operation. The drivetrain, inverters, environmental and entertainment controls, ECM and many ECUs all interact with the battery. Subsystem behavior may be effected by the battery’s SoC estimation, SoH, drive cycles, imbalance, ageing, contactor control, alarms and diagnostic trouble codes. These behaviors are difficult, expensive, and often dangerous to replicate in a test lab or track using actual EV batteries. In this presentation, Grant Gothing presents several EV subsystem test scenarios performed in a lab using the real BMS and commercial, off-the-shelf battery cell simulation hardware. Benefits include improved safety, reliability, repeatability, efficiency, lower cost and expanded test coverage over in-vehicle or real battery testing.
