At this year's eVTOL Show, BLOOMY® will present the following:
From Test Rig to Certification Evidence
Presenter: Peter Blume, President – BLOOMY
Time: 12:15 - 12:35
How Do We Prove the Behavior of Increasingly Integrated Electric Aircraft Systems?
eVTOL systems cannot be substantiated solely in isolation. Batteries, power electronics, propulsion and control software interact dynamically, particularly during high-power transients, degraded operation and failures that may be unsafe to reproduce in flight.
The challenge is demonstrating those interactions through a coordinated combination of simulation, component testing, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), integrated rigs and aircraft testing—with the fidelity, repeatability and traceability needed to support certification.
Key Technical Questions
- Which behaviors must be demonstrated in simulation, HIL, integrated rigs or aircraft testing—and how should evidence connect across these environments?
- What model validation, timing accuracy and hardware representation are needed for HIL results to support certification credit?
- How can fault injection reproduce transient and state-dependent failures to verify detection, isolation and reconfiguration?
- How should requirements and safety assessments guide test coverage without creating an unmanageable test matrix?
- When hardware, software or models change, which results remain valid—and what must be repeated?
Exhibits
In addition, BLOOMY will showcase HIL/SIL solutions for validation, integration and certification testing of many e/VTOL systems, including autonomous systems, battery energy storage systems, engine controls, environmental controls, flight control computers, mission systems, propulsion systems, vehicle management systems, sensors, actuators and avionic bus communications. Our newest offerings include advanced new commercial battery cell simulators, and a high-voltage pack simulator comprised of more than 200 series-connected simulated cell channels. In addition, the eVTOL HIL Test System provides an integrated, closed-loop environment for dynamic testing of flight control systems and battery management systems for eVTOL. The system simulates more than 200 battery cells as well as control surface activities during forward and transitional flight. The system utilizes BLOOMY’s commercially available battery cell simulator products, including the Battery Simulator 1201, the world’s highest cell channel density battery cell simulator.
